The Black Box® Brand CATx Micro Extender Kits provide KVM remote control of CPUs over a distance of up to 50 meters. Even resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 at 60 Hz are supported.
Intelligent keyboard and mouse emulation built into the local module makes the kit compatible with almost all PS/2 platform PCs or servers, including RS/6000™ or HP® UNIX® workstations. It provides keep-alive functionality, so a connected server doesn’t lock up, even if the CAT5 link is dispatched or if no keyboard or mouse is present at the remote module.
The Dual-Access version (ACU3009A) offers additional connectivity to a local KVM console for on-site administration when direct access to the CPU is required—for instance, to service its hardware. KVM signals are shared between the local and remote console.
An adjustable timeout function handles access control between the shared keyboards and mice. As long as the user is pressing a key or moving the mouse at either the remote or local console, the user has control rights for accessing the server. The video signal is present on both local and remote stations all the time unless the local operator doesn’t want to be disturbed and uses a hot key command to lock the remote console.
For bidirectional stereo audio and transparent RS-232/V.24 support (up to 19.2 kbps), the Multimedia Kit (ACU3022A) is available. With it, audio and RS-232/V.24 signals can be sent across a single CAT5 cable along with the video signal. It‘s the space-saving, cost-effective solution for connecting a conference room’s ceiling-mounted multimedia projectors to a PC or laptop located between 15 and 50 meters away.
